What Targets Are & Why They Matter

Targets are strategic goals you set and work toward over a defined period — typically tied to your budget, board commitments, or annual planning.

Here are some examples of metrics teams commonly use as Targets:

  • Revenue
  • Gross Margin
  • EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation & Amortization)
  • Rev./Emp. (Revenue per Employee)
  • A/R Days (Accounts Receivable Days)
  • Inventory Days
  • # of Locations
  • # of Customers

How to Document Targets

  1. Under Strategy, choose Targets in the left menu.
  2. Click Add Target:
    1. If you're already tracking a KPI for this Target: choose Create from KPI.
    2. If you don't have a KPI yet: choose Create New Target, enter a name, and click Save. You can link a KPI to this Target later (see Step 5).
  3. Click any column header to rename it (e.g., change the year label) or add a description. Click the + to add columns for additional years.
  4. Click the cell for each year to enter your target value.
  5. Optionally, link the Target to an existing KPI. This will sync the Target name and target value with the KPI's annual green criteria.
  6. If you don't have a KPI yet, you can create one directly from the Target by clicking Create KPI from Target.

Any KPIs linked to Targets will appear in the Target Dashboard and in your KPI lists marked with the Target icon. This makes it easy to see which KPIs have associated Targets at a glance.
