Training New Team Members on Rhythm
Seamlessly integrate Rhythm into your new employee onboarding process.
Your newest team members are the future of your company, and how you welcome them into Rhythm shapes how they will work for years to come. When new hires learn Rhythm early, they plug into your strategic plan faster, contribute in Weekly Adjustment Meetings sooner, and start building strong habits from day one.
Training new team members does not have to be complicated. Use a simple training plan to set every new hire up for success in their first 30 days.
Rhythm Training as Part of the Onboarding Process
Rhythm is at the core of your company’s daily operations. It is how the team plans, communicates, and executes, so it belongs in onboarding alongside benefits, systems, and role expectations. Weaving Rhythm training into the first few weeks helps new team members:
- See how their role connects to the company’s high-level goals
- Understand the team’s weekly cadence (meetings, statuses, and Week in Sync notes) from the start
- Build relationships with their team through shared language and dashboards
- Contribute meaningfully in their first Weekly Adjustment Meeting, not their fifth
A simple way to think about it: If your new hire is going to use Rhythm every week, they should learn Rhythm in their first week.
Timeline: The First 30 Days
Here is a gentle, repeatable timeline you can use for every new team member. Consider adding it to your existing onboarding checklist.
Week 1: Welcome and Framework
- Introduce Rhythm as the way your company runs
- Share a short overview of the Think-Plan-Do methodology
- Walk through the company annual plan and the team’s quarter goals
- Set up user access, permissions, and a quick software tour
Week 2: Observe and Learn
- Register for Rhythm Certification and complete the three Quick Start courses
- Attend the first Weekly Adjustment Meeting (WAM) as an observer
- Review teammates’ goals, KPIs, and Week in Sync notes to see examples in action
- Schedule a 15-minute 1:1 with the manager to answer questions
Week 3: Practice
- Meet with their manager to receive goal assignments for this quarter
- Draft their first Week in Sync note
- Begin status updates on goals
- Participate more actively in the Weekly Adjustment Meeting
Week 4: Full Participation
- Own weekly status updates on assigned goals and KPIs, including comments for additional context
- Complete a Week in Sync note each week and be prepared to share highlights
- Contribute actively to Weekly Adjustment Meetings, particularly problem-solving conversations
- Check in with their manager on what is working and where help is needed
Expectations
By the end of the first 30 days, every new team member should feel confident with the following expectations. Share these early, repeat them often, and model them yourself.
- Participate in their team’s Weekly Adjustment Meeting. Be on time, prepared, and ready to focus on adjustments rather than status reporting.
- Status Priorities and KPIs weekly. Status on a forecast or on an actual basis, depending on the type and nature of the goal. Include a short comment that tells the story behind the status.
- Complete a Week in Sync note each week. Use it to reflect on the past week, plan the week ahead, and flag where help is needed.
- Ask questions. Mastery of the Rhythm methodology grows over time. Curiosity is welcome and expected!
