Every quarter is a thirteen-week race. It goes by fast. Before you know it, the quarter is over. And then the year is over. You are left with the question, “Did I accomplish what I set out to accomplish?”
Start by creating a dashboard and giving it a description reflecting what you want to accomplish.
Next, think through and record the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will help you know you are on-track to achieve your overall goal. You can record up to 5 KPIs per dashboard you create.
Then for each KPI make sure you record what success looks like (Green) and what failure looks like (Red). Then record your challenge goal (SuperGreen).
Make sure you have both leading and results indicator KPIs in your dashboard. Results Indicator KPIs tell us if we are getting the results we want. Leading Indicator KPIs tell us if we are on-track to get those results.
Use the Stop Signs Dashboard (EXAMPLE) dashboard as a guide for examples on setting up your dashboard, KPIs, and specifying the right Red-Yellow-Green success criteria.
Your dashboards and KPIs are set-up. You are on the starting line. Now it's time to run and win your 13 Week Race.
You win by staying focused and disciplined. Establish a weekly rhythm to review progress and think through actions needed to stay on track and accomplish these 5 KPIs on your dashboard.
Status your KPIs weekly and record how you are doing in the "Value for the Week" field. If you are statusing Red, record why in the "Notes" field. Then record any thoughts or adjustments you need to make in your execution to achieve success in the "Notes" field.
