As the sole electricity provider for nearly 40,000 residents, Marshalls Energy Company (MEC) carries tremendous responsibility. Every outage, every misstep, affects homes, businesses, and essential infrastructure.
The MEC team had no shortage of great ideas - but struggled to consistently prioritize, execute, and follow through. Without a clear system, progress stalled and accountability slipped.
Add to that the high-stakes challenges: weather-related damage, aging infrastructure, the pressure to expand renewable energy, and unmetered usage cutting into revenue. MEC needed more than good intentions. They needed a better way to execute.
That’s where Rhythm came in.
In the beginning, the Rhythm team partnered with MEC to establish a near-term execution plan. Together, they focused on making this plan visible and accessible—not buried in long documents or slide decks. The Rhythm software provided easy navigability so that the MEC team could quickly refer to their plan and update their goals’ progress.
After the plan was set, the MEC team developed their “DO” habits with the attentive coaching of their Success Managers, Melissa Bauerle and Paul Clark. Setting Tasks and clear milestones became an essential driver of success. MEC also began shifting from inefficient weekly status updates to meetings that center on forecasting and problem-solving.
A major breakthrough happened when Paul led the MEC team through a deep dive into leading indicators. Previously, these predictive metrics were not being used anywhere in the organization. “My read was ‘none of [your current KPIs] help you identify and avoid problems - you need an Early Warning System,’” Paul shared. This was an “aha!” moment for the team. They now regularly look at leading indicator data that will help them prevent issues before those issues grow bigger.
At the start of 2025, CEO Jack Chong-Gum took the next step: personal coaching with Rhythm to strengthen accountability and execution.
His leadership shift has had a ripple effect. Jack’s growth has elevated his team’s performance - and reinforced a culture of follow-through and focus.
