Daily Huddles are a valuable addition to your Meeting Rhythm. Investing 15 minutes a day to share victories, priorities and stucks as a group can provide big payoffs with accelerated execution and increased efficiency.
However, many teams struggle with how to keep Daily Huddle Meetings fresh and productive. How do you keep the team engaged and invested in the Daily Huddle?
1. Decide on a Daily Huddle schedule that makes sense for the team. It’s okay for Huddles to only happen a few days a week. If your Weekly Meetings are on Monday and most people travel on Friday, a Daily Huddle schedule of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday makes sense. Also, pick an odd time that is easy for people to remember, like 12:12 for example.
2. Designate a person on the team who “owns” the Daily Huddle. This person should facilitate the call and keep the conversation on track. A facilitator provides consistency to the call.
3. Don’t be hard on yourself if there is a day or two you are not able to make the Huddle. If someone is traveling or meeting with a customer, they should send their information to the facilitator to be shared with the team on the Huddle.
4. Take advantage of having the entire team's attention and use the Daily Huddle to resolve Stucks. This will save time and eliminate several back and forth emails. Note: If a "Stuck" is a bigger issue that requires more than 2-3 minutes on the Huddle, the discussion should be moved offline for the necessary parties.
